The Trusty Hound
A hunter whose wife had died, lived in a small cottage in the middle of a forest with his 4 year old child and his beautiful hound (a hunting dog). Whenever he went hunting he would put his child to sleep and take the hound with him. The hound was very trustworthy and had saved the hunter’s life many times.
One night, the hunter went hunting but he had forgotten the hound. Meanwhile the dog was playing near the child’s cot. When the hunter reached the end of the forest he noticed that he had forgotten the hound. The hunter, getting worried, ran to his house as fast as his legs could carry him.
When he reached he saw blood on the floor. The hound came running to him and stopped. The hound’s claws and teeth were dripping with the red liquid. The hunter was furious thinking that the dog had killed his child. Angry as he was, he took his sword and was going to slice it. The animal understood that its master wanted to kill it. It lay steady on the ground, kneeling to its master. He took a deep breath and sliced the hound into two.
As he rushed to see his child, she came out to her father saying that a big snake came to bite her, when the hound jumped at it and killed it. The hunter now felt very sad. So the hunter came to his knees and asked for forgiveness from the dog. The hunter never forgot the hound ever in his life.
