Red Panda
INFORMATION
The red panda is slightly larger than a house cat with a bear-like body and thick fur. The belly and limbs are black, and there are white markings on the side of the head and above its cute eyes. They have nice round ears and white whiskers.
The red pandas are instantly recognizable by their red coloring and cute face, long bushy tails and raccoon like features, they are excellent tree climbers.
The giant panda resembles a black bear while the red panda resembles a raccoon. So no one is for sure which resembles a panda.
Both red pandas and giant pandas are endangered, their population is decreasing rapidly and may soon be extinct.
Their primary threats are habitat loss and degradation, human interference and poaching(illegal trafficking and killing of wildlife).
According to the World Wildlife Fund, there are less than 10,000 red pandas left in the world
Red pandas feed mainly on leaves and bamboo, but occasionally snack on fruit, insects, bird eggs and small lizards. Very unlike the giant panda who is a complete vegetarian.
Red pandas live in the Eastern Himalayas in places like China, Nepal, and Bhutan. They spend most of their time in trees.
FUN FACTS
Red pandas are the only vegetarian carnivores.
