Komodo Dragon
INFORMATION
Komodo dragons are large lizards with long tails, strong necks, and sturdy limbs. Their tongues are yellow.
Almost all Adults are stone colored with large scales, while younger ones may display a more colorful pattern.
Komodo dragons are the heaviest lizards on Earth. They have long, flat heads with rounded snouts. They have very scaly skin and huge tails.
Large adults eat goats, pigs, deer and more while smaller ones eat birds, bird eggs, small mammals, small reptiles and so. They have been known to bring down horses and water buffaloes too.
The ones which live in the Zoo take Insects, mice, rats, rabbits, and a prepared carnivore diet. While the adults prefer to hunt large mammals, the very young ones feed on insects, eggs, geckos, and small mammals.
Komodo dragons hunt and ambush its prey. It has been discovered that they have a very venomous bite. Komodo dragons have sharp, serrated teeth, but a weak bite, and prey may escape the attack of the predator but the prey, if bitten and not immediately killed, may go on to have lethargy and shock after the attack.
Occasionally, they attack and bite humans. Sometimes they even consume human corpses, digging up bodies from shallow graves.
They reach up to 10 feet in length and more than 300 pounds.
Komodo dragons have thrived in the harsh climate of Indonesia's Sunda Islands for millions of years. They prefer the islands' tropical forests but can be found across the islands too.
